Armenia’s President delivers condolences to Iran following the earthquake
YEREVAN, August 14. /ARKA/. Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan sent a telegram of condolences to President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad following the many deaths caused by an earthquake, the Office reports.
Iran has raised the death toll to nearly 300 from Saturday’s earthquake in the northwestern part of the country. The earthquake registered 6.6 magnitude scale and 9 points.
“I express my sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims, and on your behalf- to the whole friendly Iranian nation,” Sargsyan said in the telegram.
He also mentioned the readiness of Armenian side to support Iran in the efforts to recover from the disaster.
Earthquake happened in Armenia too. Agarak, Meghri, Kajaryan, Goris ( near Armenian-Iranian border) reported 4.5 points, Yerevan- 3-4 points.
Iran is within top 10 earthquake-prone regions on the Earth. Almost each ten years, the country reports 7.00 or more magnitude scale earthquakes.—0-
