Armenia to send humanitarian aid to Iran

YEREVAN, August 16. /ARKA/. Armenia will send tents, roll away beds and other property valued at 36.7 million drams (nearly 90,000 dollars) in help to Iran following the disastrous earthquake, Novosti-Armenia agency reports referring to Armenian Deputy Emergency Minister Haykaram Mkhitaryan. 

Iran has raised the death toll to over 300 from Saturday’s earthquake in the northwestern part of the country. The earthquake registered 6.6 magnitude scale and 9 points.

Following the decision reached at the Cabinet meeting Thursday, Armenia will send three 40- person, six 10- person, 31 six -person, 27 five- person, 14 4- person winter tents, blankets, mattresses, sleeping bags, folding beds and other property. 

Armenia will also provide Iran with drinking water, canned products and transport facilities, however, according to Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, the definite volumes will be clarified and announced within a couple of days.

The earthquake was felt in Armenia too. Agarak, Meghri, Kajaryan, Goris ( near Armenian-Iranian border) reported 4.5 points, Yerevan- 3-4 points. 

Iran is within top 10 earthquake-prone regions on the Earth. Almost each ten years, the country reports 7.00 or more magnitude scale earthquakes. —0—
