YEREVAN, October 25. /ARKA/. A criminal case may be proceeded as a half-constructed building collapsed Thursday in Yerevan downtown, a deputy head of Armenia’s Rescue Service Nikolay Grigoryan told journalists, Novosti-Armenia reports.
“I think, a criminal case will be opened over this incident, and after that we will probably be able to speak about mistakes and causes,” he said.
The collapse of a building at 20, Khanjyan street was reported to the Ministry of Emergency at 13:10 local time (the same as Moscow time). The special rescue group duty team of the crisis management center of Armenian Ministry of Emergencies and six squads arrived at the accident site.
Eleven injured were transported to “Grigor Lusavorich” medical center. Five of them are in a grave condition.
Grigoryan also said the collapsed building belongs to the owner of the nearby Jose entertaining center.
On his turn, a chief of Yerevan’s rescue department, colonel Mushegh Ghazaryan said all the eleven injured individuals were members of the construction team.
The rescuers are discussing the most rational ways to remove debris, as the still wet concrete causes a lot of trouble to this process.
Minister of Emergency Situations of Armenia Armen Yeritsyan also arrived at the accident site. -0-
