YEREVAN, February 11. /ARKA/. Paruyr Hayrikyan, Armenia’s presidential candidate and a leader of Union for National Self-Determination party, was shot from “Nagant” revolver found at the apartment of one of the detainees suspected in assassination attempt, National Security Service reported to Novosti-Armenia referring to the expertise.
Hayrikyan was gunned in the shoulder in the center of Yerevan, Tpagrichneri street, where his parents live, around 23:30 on January 31. He was hospitalized where he had a successful surgery. Last Friday the intelligence office said it had detained two suspects, Khachatur Poghosyan and Samvel Harutyunyan, who had been later arrested for two months. NSS reported a day later on finding a “Nagant” revolver at the apartment of Khachatur Poghosyan. The information on the revolver was signaled by Poghosyan;s wife, the intelligence office said.
The seized revolver was submitted for forensic ballistics test. The expert has already stated Hayrikyan was gunned twice with 7.62-caliber bullets. One bullet was detected on the crime spot, the other was pull out during the surgery. Both bullets were identified to be fired from the tested Nagant.
NSS also commented on the rumors on inappropriate investigation assuring the officers made all the necessary efforts to unveil the facts.
The intelligence office reported it will check any possible suspicion or demand as it will ensure comprehensive case investigation. -0-
