Homeless suspect in five cable theft cases on South Caucasian Railway in January

YEREVAN, February 1. /ARKA/. Theft cases have become more common at the South Caucasian Railway since the beginning of the year, the company press service reports.

On January 7-20, an unknown person committed five cable thefts on Proshyan-Yeghvard rail section, according to the report.

The police and the company managed to get on the trail and detain the possible offender, who is a homeless. A bed, a stove, a pick, a shovel and 17meters of stolen cable was found in a small house not far from the railway, according to the report.

In May 2012, the police detained five under-aged residents of Ayntap village who used to steal cable from the company and sell it at scrap metal prices.
The damage suffered by the company due to the theft cases totalled over 536,000 drams.

The company once again stresses that stealing equipment and facilities from the railway is inadmissible and may be dangerous for traffic and safety of passengers, says the report.
