Post office cashier kills himself after embezzling $44,000
YEREVAN, January. /ARKA/. A cashier of a post office in Kotayk province, suspected of embezzling nearly 17.1 million drams ($44,200), had committed a suicide, the Armenian Police said Friday.
The cashier, Andranik Manukian, born 1963, was taken to the Abovyan Medical Center after drinking three bottles of essences to kill himself, Police said. He was then rushed to Armenia Medical Center in Yerevan, but died there in the evening of the same day without regaining consciousness.
The Police reported that the same day the director of the post office set up a commission to take stocks of funds which revealed a shortage of more than 17.1 million drams. The Police said the cashier is the main suspect. A criminal case was launched on charges of large scale misappropriation or embezzlement. -0-
