South Caucasus Railways warns against thefts on railway

YEREVAN, June 17. /ARKA/. The Russian-run South Caucasus Railway (SCR), operating Armenia’s railroads, said unknown persons broke into the post of the company at Almast platform on June 16 overnight stealing office supplies and paraphernalia used for traffic control.
YEREVAN, June 17. /ARKA/. The Russian-run South Caucasus Railway (SCR), operating Armenia’s railroads, said unknown persons broke into the post of the company at Almast platform on June 16 overnight stealing office supplies and paraphernalia used for traffic control.
It said an investigation was launched into the case. The platform is located in Kanaker-Zeitun administrative district in Yerevan.
The company said that thefts on the railway pose a real threat to the life and health of citizens. In particular, theft of a few meters of cable, which from the point of view of an ordinary citizen is not of special importance may result in loss of communication between the stations, traffic lights and disruption in train schedule and, as a consequence, serious accidents and wrecks.
The South Caucasus Railways is run by Russian Railways. The concessional agreement was concluded in 2008 for 30 years, with a right of extension for another 20 years after the first 20 years of operation. -0-
