YEREVAN, March 14. /ARKA/. Polls of Gallup International Association revealed 60% of Yerevan’s residents want current Mayor Taron Margaryan to continue running his office.
Some 1,066 residents were polled from 9 to 11 March. The miscalculations stood at 3%
Next Yerevan Council of Elders elections will be held on May 5, 2013.
Council of Elders elects a mayor. The factions of the Council of Elders are authorized to nominate candidates.
Aram Navasardyan, Director of Armenian affiliate with Gallup International Association, said 17% of residents voted for Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan, and 3% --for former Mayor Karen Karapetyan.
“Armen Rustamyan, Head of ARF Dashnaktsutyun party, gained 2%, Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannisian, deputy head of the party Armen Martirosyan and United Labor Party leader Gurgen Arsenyan got 1% each,” he said Thursday at a news conference at Novosti International Press Center in Yerevan.
Navasardyan said 4% of respondents didn’t vote for any particular candidate, 5% named some other candidates and 6% found it difficult to respond.
He also noted the respondents were not asked about the choice of political forces and their candidates as the election campaign hadn’t kicked off yet, and not all political forces had submitted their electoral lists.
“We didn’t mark any political forces also because most of people want to see a household manager as their mayor rather than a representative of any political force. However, the polls on political forces will be launched after the election campaign kicks off on March 21,” he added. -0-
