Ambassador: UK interested in developing multilateral relations with Armenia
YEREVAN, October 1. /ARKA/. Great Britain is interested in developing multilateral cooperation with Armenia, British Ambassador to Armenia John Gallagher said on Friday during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Suren Papikyan.
Gallaher presented to Papikyan the results of his meetings with representatives of various state and political circles of Armenia.
According to Papikyan’s press service, the two men discussed the prospects for stepping up bilateral cooperation in various fields, such as business, tourism, new technologies, climate change problems, effective governance and development of civil society institutions.
Papikyan was quoted as saying that development of relations with Great Britain is important for Armenia, and there are many untapped opportunities and that the sides need to draw up new agendas.
Papikyan announced the readiness of the Armenian government to develop bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, social, cultural, scientific and educational areas.
During the conversation, the sides noted the need to resume direct flights between Yerevan and London. Papikyan and Gallagher also touched upon the use of new technologies in the field of solar energy, science and education.
On the post-war situation, the Armenian Deputy Prime Minister stressed the need for multilateral efforts to establish stability and peace in the region. He highly appreciated the position of Great Britain for supporting the OSCE Minsk Group platform for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which will bring lasting peace.
Papikyan and Gallagher also discussed the situation in Syunik province. In this context, Papikyan presented the priorities of the government on renewing the road network of the region, developing communities and improving the socio-economic condition of the population. He expressed confidence that by the end of the year significant progress will be recorded in this direction. - 0--
