YEREVAN, November 6. /ARKA/. The National Security Service of Armenia, conducting a consistent and effective work to identify, prevent and suppress the intelligence activities of foreign states’ special services, directed against the sovereignty, territorial integrity and external security of Armenia, has revealed another case of treason, the press center of the department reported.
The NSS received sufficient information that the citizen of Armenia M.S. during 2015 he was working in Turkey - in the city of Istanbul. Having found himself in the field of view of the Azerbaijani intelligence services operating in this country, and being recruited by them, after returning to Armenia during 2019, he received an offer to transfer the information he already had on external security, the armed forces and armament of Armenia and Artsakh, including number, about the personnel of the army, weapons, ammunition, the number and types of military equipment, military units and their commanders, defense areas, engineering structures, equipment, and in the last period - about human losses, etc. Having accepted this proposal, he through espionage completed the assigned tasks and received various sums of payment for this, thus, to the detriment of the territorial inviolability and external security of Armenia, assisting foreign special services in their hostile activities.
Along with that, in order to carry out certain tasks, M.S., continuing to implement his criminal plan, through a repeated medical examination, eliminated restrictions on military service, took measures to pass service in the Armed Forces of Armenia to re-collect information and conduct hostile actions. However, he did not succeed, since the relevant authorities rejected his job application.
On this fact, the NSS initiated a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under the article of the Armenian Criminal Code on treason, under which M.S. was detained on direct suspicion of committing treason. He gave confessing testimonies.
“The NSS is consistently fighting to prevent, suppress and solve crimes against the foundations of the constitutional order and state security. The NSS also expects the involvement of the general public in this process in the context of providing the authorities with information they know about treason or espionage for the benefit of the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Armenia,” the statement says. -0-
