Armenia successfully implementing IPAP with NATO

Armenia is successfully implementing the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) with the North Atlantic Alliance, Armen Yedigaryan, the head of the Arms Control and International Security Department at  the Armenian Foreign Ministry, said during a press conference today dedicated to the launch of the 11th NATO Week in Armenia.

YEREVAN, December 13. /ARKA/. Armenia is successfully implementing the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) with the North Atlantic Alliance, Armen Yedigaryan, the head of the Arms Control and International Security Department at  the Armenian Foreign Ministry, said during a press conference today dedicated to the launch of the 11th NATO Week in Armenia.

"NATO Week is held as part of the Individual Partnership Action Plan between  Armenia and NATO and is organized by the Foreign and Defense Ministries, the NATO General Diplomatic Department, the German Embassy in Armenia, and the NATO Information Center.

"This year has been full of events, including a number of bilateral visits aimed at strengthening cooperation.  Armenia continues to participate in NATO peacekeeping missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo, which allows us to say that the country is successfully implementing the Individual Partnership Action Plan with NATO," Yedigaryan said.

Yedigaryan also stressed that an important milestone in Armenia-NATO cooperation was the adoption in April of this year of the strategy of bilateral cooperation for the period 2017-2019.

Armenia has been participating in international peacekeeping missions since 2004. At the moment, Armenian contingents are stationed in Kosovo and Afghanistan, and peacekeepers from Armenia are carrying out also  mission in Lebanon under the aegis of the UN.

Cooperation between Armenia and NATO is currently being built in accordance with the Armenia-NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan, which was signed in December 2005. Armenia's participation in the IPAP involves holding periodic consultations with NATO on regional security, developing the strategy of this security, the military doctrine of Armenia, improving the defense and budget planning process and other issues.

The NATO Information Center has been operating in Yerevan since March 2007. -0-
