Armenian-Azerbaijani talks not deadlocked- Armen Grigoryan
YEREVAN, July 11. /ARKA/. The Secretary of Armenia's Security Council Armen Grigoryan denied allegations that the Armenian-Azerbaijani talks were deadlocked and that there was a threat of a new war.
These allegations emerged after Azerbaijan failed a planned meeting between Grigoryan and an Azerbaijani presidential aide. The lack of information about the next meetings of the border delimitation commissions has also contributed to the emergence of these allegations.
"No, I wouldn't say that the talks have deadlocked. The first meeting of the delimitation commissions took place at the border. The next meetings should take place in Moscow and Brussels and we hope that soon an agreement will be reached and the meetings that had been planned in advance will take place. You know that there was a meeting of the deputy prime ministers in St. Petersburg to unblock communications. Generally speaking, an attempt was made to bring positions closer", Grigoryan said in an interview with Armenian Public Television.
He said discussions are continuing. "I hope to be able to meet with the Azerbaijani presidential aide in the near future. The agenda of that meeting is being discussed," Grigoryan said.
The Security Council Secretary also expressed hope that substantive meetings and discussions on a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan would soon begin.
"The foreign ministries of the both countries are working. Let's hope for progress. We continue to work to advance the agenda of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. The Armenian side is always ready for substantive discussions. If there is a similar approach on part of Azerbaijan, the process will go faster," Grigoryan said. -0-
