Armenian employers ought to maintain jobs for employees on special leave

YEREVAN, February 26. /ARKA/. Armenian National Assembly passed today amendments to the Labor Code at the first reading.
The amendments oblige every employer to keep the job of his employee who is on a special leave.

Karine Achemyan, MP from the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, said presenting the bill to her fellow parliamentarians that the necessity to amend the code was prompted by Armenia’s commitments toward international organizations and numerous complaints filed mostly from women who had been dismissed while on maternity leave.

“The amendments specify that the employee may lose his/her job only in the event of dissolution of the company,” she said.
In accordance with the Labor Code, the special leave category includes the maternity leave, the leave for taking care of a child at age under 3, the study leave and the leave for fulfilling state or public duties and the unpaid leave.  -0-
