YEREVAN, October 15. / ARKA /. An Armenian plane with humanitarian aid for Syrian Armenians that was ordered to land by Turkish authorities and was searched earlier today was allowed to continue on its way, Arsen Avetisian, a spokesman for Air Armenia company, said to Novosti Armenia.
The plane was landed and searched in the eastern Turkish city of Erzurum. He said the search confirmed it was carrying humanitarian aid as stated by Armenian officials.
The stop in Turkey was planned, Tigran Balayan, a spokesman for Armenia’s Foreign Ministry said earlier today. Turkey permitted the flight on condition it would carry out the search, Turkish NTV channel reported.
Syria is home to an estimated 90 thousand ethnic Armenians. The largest 70,000 -strong community is in Aleppo. Armenians live also in Damascus, Latakia and other cities. -0-
