Armenian premier offers deal to those Syunik residents who block road
YEREVAN, December 21. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, offered a deal to those peole who who blocked his way as he toured settlements in Syunik.

He noted that his visit was planned to Goris, Kapan and Meghri, but the problem is that some people closed the roads there in the morning and there were large congestions of cars.

“They closed the road because they knew that there would also be impovised rallies [in support of the prime minister - ed.] in Goris, Kapan, Meghri, Shurnukh. They closed the road, because we knew that there would be impromptu rallies everywhere, but we will not go to provocations, especially in days of mourning. I promised to look in the eyes of the people of Syunik and did it. I know I am to blame for many issues, but there is a lot of work to be done to be worthy of your trust. Unfortunately, not a single government was able to bring the country to such a state that citizens deserve,” Pashinyan said.

He suggested that the protesters unblock the road and visit the indicated cities with him to see what kind of support the people would give him.

“There cannot be such a mood in one city of Syunik, and absolutely opposite in other cities. The people understand the situation deeper. I came to Sisian. We must not give in to provocations, since there are people who want to arrange clashes,” Pashinyan said.

The Armenian prime minster said that he is ready to meet with citizens, understands that there are difficult and correct questions, but at the same time accepts responsibility and understands that he must answer them, adding that there are also questions that he does not yet have answers.

He said that his main goal was to communicate with people in Syunik, he did this and expressed gratitude for the warm welcome.

Earlier today Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan went live on his Facebook page on his way to Syunik province.

In recent days, some residents of Syunik have been staging protest actions - they are outraged by the border demarcation process that is under way now. Syunik is an Armenian province bordering with Azerbaijan.

"I want to assure you that my decision to visit Syunik was not made at all in order to agitate people, exacerbate the situation or sprinkle salt on the wound ... On the contrary, I decided to go to Syunik to express my respect for the people of Syunik and, most importantly, to answer to your questions and to give clarifications, looking you straight in the eyes," the prime minister said, urging the residents of Syunik not to aggravate the already tense situation. He assured that he is aware of his obligations toward fellow citizens and fully fulfills them.

Pashinyan also stressed that contrary to the rumors going around, not a millimeter of land will be ceded from the territory of Syunik.

The premier visited one village and one city, Sisian, where he communicated with local residents.

What is going on in Syunik

After the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities in Artsakh on November 9, more than 190 settlements of the Nagorno Karabakh and adjacent seven regions came under the control of Azerbaijan. As a result, the borders of the Syunik region in the south of Armenia (including the administrative center Kapan) turned out to be in close proximity to the new borders of Azerbaijan (restoring the Soviet-era borders).

Earlier, the mayor of the city of Kapan in the Syunik region of Armenia, Gevorg Parsyan, said that in the morning of December 17, the ministry of defense of the country received an order to liberate the advantageous heights of Kapan until 17:00 on December 18, "they surrender to the enemy." He explained that as a result of this "it will turn out so that the enemy will approach our borders and will be at a distance of only one kilometer from us." In addition, Parsyan noted that the road leading from Kapan to four villages - a section of the road towards the villages of Khdrants, Kapan, Yeghvard and Uzhanis - falls into enemy territory.

About Artsakh War

From September 27 to November 9, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, with the participation of Turkey and foreign mercenaries and terrorists recruited by it, carried out aggression against Artsakh at the frontline and in the rear using rocket and artillery weapons, heavy armored vehicles, military aircraft and prohibited types of weapons (cluster bombs, phosphorus weapons). The strikes were delivered also at civil and military targets on the territory of Armenia.

On November 9, the leaders of the Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities in Artsakh. According to the document, the parties stop at their positions. The city of Shushi, Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin regions pass over to Azerbaijan, with the exception of a 5-kilometer corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia. A Russian peacekeeping contingent will be deployed along the contact line in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. Internally displaced persons and refugees are returning to Karabakh and adjacent regions, prisoners of war, hostages and other detained persons and bodies of the dead are exchanged. -0-
