Azerbaijan kills 19 civilians in Karabakh; 80 others are injured
YEREVAN, October 5. /ARKA/. Nineteen civilians were killed, 80 injured and more than 2,700 items of property and infrastructure were damaged in Artsakh as a result of war crimes committed by Azerbaijan, the office of Artsakh human rights defender said today.

As part of the fact-finding mission organized by the office, a thorough investigation and analysis of cases of criminal encroachments committed by the Azerbaijani armed forces against the civilian population of Artsakh for the period September 27, 2020 - October 4, 2020 was carried out.

As of October 4, a total of 19 civilians were killed, including 1 girl, 7 women and 11 men. A child, five women and four men were killed in the courtyard of their house, and the rest were killed in public places in different settlements.

Fatal cases were recorded in the cities of Stepanakert (7 people), Martuni (6 people), Hadrut (1 person) and Martakert (3 people), in the village of Alashan (1 person) and near the village of Mets Shen (1 person) in Martakert region.

About 80 people were injured. Of them, 60 were seriously injured, including 48 men and 12 women. Twenty-four civilians were injured by a shell explosion in or near their home (in 8 cases the shells exploded in the backyard of an apartment building), and 6 people were injured when a shell hit a vehicle while they were moving to a relatively safe place.

Seven people were injured as a result of shelling of the building of the State Emergency Situations, and 23 from shelling of other public places. The wounded  received shrapnel wounds mainly in the lower, upper limbs and face.

Twenty-two people were seriously injured in Stepanakert or adjacent areas, 6 people - in the district center of Hadrut, 3 people - in the Tagaser community, 1 person - in the Vardashat community of the same district, 12 people - in the district center of Martuni, 1 person - in the Spitakashen community , 2 people - in Martakert, 5 people - in the area adjacent to the Magavuz community, 2 people - in the N. Goratakh community, 3 people - in the Alashan village, 1 person - in the Mataghis community, 2 people - in the Karvachar town of the Shahumyan region.

Since September 27, Azerbaijani armed forces  struck more than 60 civilian settlements in the Republic of Artsakh, destroying or damaging numerous infrastructure and private property. In particular, more than 2,100 private real estate objects (houses, shops, etc.), more than 240 cars, about 350 infrastructure and industrial facilities were seriously damaged.

Yesterday and today, Azerbaijan fired heavy rockets at the civil infrastructure and residential buildings of the capital Stepanakert.

The human rights defender emphasizes that Azerbaijani forces used  prohibited types of weapons and prohibited methods, and in recent days, Azerbaijan has begun to widely use also heavy missile and aircraft weapons of a wide range, some of which are of the cluster type against civilian population.

Moreover, over the past two days in Stepanakert and a number of other settlements, the Azerbaijani armed forces have deliberately and precisely targeted vital infrastructures, which constitutes a serious war crime aggravating the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh. -0-
