Czech Republic says Geneva Conventions must be respected as part of humanitarian issues in Nagorno-Karabakh

YEREVAN, July 27. /ARKA/. During a working visit to the Czech Republic Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with Czech Senate President Miloš Vystrčil in Prague on July 26, the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.

It said Mirzoyan presented Armenia's efforts toward establishing stability and security in the region, stressing that realities resulting from the use of force cannot create a solid foundation for peace.

Touching upon the humanitarian problems caused by the 44-day war (in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone), the Minister stressed the need for urgent return of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians illegally detained in Azerbaijan, the preservation of Armenian monuments - part of the world heritage in the territories taken under Azerbaijani control and the prevention of continued vandalism.

In the context of humanitarian issues, the Czech side stressed that the provisions of international law and the Geneva Conventions must be respected. -0-
