Deadline for presidential commission to present concept of constitutional reforms extended from April 1 to July 1

YEREVAN, April 10. / ARKA /. The deadline for an Armenian presidential commission set up to work out a concept of constitutional reforms, to submit the draft concept to the head of state has been extended from April 1 to July 1, the chairman of the commission, Gagik Harutyunyan, told a news conference today.

He explained the postponement by the need to organize open public discussions on the matter with experts and civil society organizations.

"Today, we asked the president of the republic to extend the deadline, because commission believes that it should learn the public opinion on a number of questions before to form final approaches on the mater,» said Harutyunyan.

The commission was decreed by president Serzh Sargsyan in 2013 September.  It was to submit the concept of constitutional reforms by April 20.

Once it is approved by the president, the commission will be given another nine months to prepare a draft plan of reforms. -0-
