Defense Ministry to pass separate decision on military service of Syrian Armenian males
YEREVAN, October 15. / ARKA /. The Armenian Defense Ministry will take a separate decision concerning the military service of Syrian Armenian males, who were granted Armenian citizenship, Artsrun Hovhannisyan, a press secretary for the defense ministry, told a news conference today.
He did not provide information about the number of Syrian Armenians of military age, who were given Armenian citizenship.
The civil war in Syria forced many local Armenians to seek refuge in Armenia and many other countries.
The Armenian community in Syria until recently had about 90 thousand people. The largest 70,000 -strong community was in Aleppo. Armenians live also in Damascus, Latakia and other cities. -0-
