Deputy head of Armenia’s ruling party nominated for speaker’s post

YEREVAN, April 28. /ARKA/. The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) nominated deputy head of the party Galust Sahakyan to the post of the speaker, vice-speaker of the parliament Eduard Sharmazanov said after the party council meeting Saturday.

The candidacy was proposed by the head of the party Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan and was unanimously approved by the party council, Sharmazanov said.

Sharmazanov said they are confident Sahakyan;s knowledge and extensive experience will help his carry out his obligations successfully as speaker. 

Galust Sahakyan is currently running RPA’s faction in the parliament.

The vice-speaker also reported Hovhannes Sahakyan will run the parliament commission for state and legal issues (instead David Harutiunyan appointed minister-head of government staff) and Hermine Naghdalayan will head the Armenian delegation to PACE.

The speaker’s post has been vacant after appointment of Hovik Abrahamyan as premier. 

Galust Sahakyan was born in Yerevan on April 8, 1948. He graduated from the Yerevan State University, philology department. Member of parliament since 1995 and head of RPA’s faction since 2003. –0--
