Lukashenko offers help in resolving Armenian-Azerbaijani border crisis
YEREVAN, May 17. /ARKA/. Armenia's caretaker Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a telephone conversation with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on Monday, the press service of the Armenian government reported.
It said Pashinyan informed Lukashenko about the latest events on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, noting that the Azerbaijani side, having trampled all the norms of international law, violated the border and invaded the sovereign territory of Armenia.
Pashinyan was said to have drawn Lukashenko's attention to the need to properly discuss the issue within the Collective Security Treaty Origination (CSTO) and compare the positions of the CSTO partner countries on this issue.
Lukashenka expressed concern about the situation saying he was ready to make efforts for a peaceful resolution of the situation.
According to official Armenian reports, Azerbaijani troops advanced several kilometers into the Armenian province of Syunik early on May 12 and attempted to breach the border on two other sections of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in Sisian and Vardenis, but were stopped by Armenian military units. After several days of talks, Azeri troops have reportedly withdrawn from some parts of the Armenian territory on May 16. Pashinyan told a Security Council meeting late on Sunday that the talks will resume on Wednesday. -0-
