YEREVAN, January 10. /ARKA/. Summer drafting of boys into Armenian army will be held this June-July, Armenia’s minister of defense Seyran Ohanyan told reporters Thursday, after his visit to the central call-up office.
Before the military drafts were held in May-June and November-December.
Draft timing is changed due to transfer to 12-year school education system to give draftees an opportunity to try to enter a university after finishing schools, Ohanyan told Novosti-Armenia’s reporter.
Ohanyan said the ministry is trying to ensure symmetry of drafting, military service and educational programs in the Armed Forces. In particular, the winter education period will start on February 15 and the summer one on August 15, the minister said.
On November 6 Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree about winter draft and demobilization. New rules are applied in the current drafting process. In particular, for the first time draftees have the chance to pick up a place of the service through a draft lottery. –0--
