YEREVAN, September 19. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a phone call with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken today, Pashinyan’s pres office reported.

It said the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh after the attack of Azerbaijan was discussed.

Both sides emphasized the inadmissibility of using force and the need to use international mechanisms for de-escalation.

The Azerbaijani defense ministry said in a statement Tuesday it launched “local anti-terrorist activities” to “suppress large-scale provocations in the Karabakh economic region,” and “to disarm and secure the withdrawal of formations of Armenia’s armed forces from our territories.”

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said Armenia's army was not involved in fighting and the situation on the border was “stable”.

“Azerbaijan has begun a ground operation aimed at ethnic cleaning of Karabakh Armenians,” Pashinyan said in a TV address. “I declare that Armenia is not involved in armed actions and does not have an army in Karabakh,” he said.

At the moment, the intensity of fire on the line of contact has significantly decreased, the Karabakh Defense Army reported.

Earlier, the Karabakh side appealed to the Azerbaijani side to immediately stop hostilities and sit down at the negotiating table to settle the situation.-0-
