Vladimir Movsisyan, a prominent Armenian statesman and politician, passed away at the age of 81.
YEREVAN, November 5. /ARKA/. Vladimir Movsisyan, a prominent Armenian statesman and politician, passed away at the age of 81.
The press office of Armenia’s government reports that a governmental commission headed by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan was set up for organizing the funeral.
Vladimir Movsisyan was born on November 12, 1933, in the village of Shenavan in Lori province.
In 1958 he graduated from the Yerevan Veterinary Institute and in 1969 from the Higher School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
In 1990 and 1991 Movsisyan was the first secretary of the Communist Party of Armenia and until 1991 he was a member of the Soviet Armenia’s Supreme Council.
From 1991 till 1996 Movsisyan headed Armenia’s agency for migration and refugees and from 1996 to 1999 worked as agriculture minister.
In his final years, he was chairing the president-affiliated commission dealing with Lake Sevan problems. ---0----
