Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan expressed his satisfaction at intensively developing Armenian- Russian relations and thanked Russian president Vladimir Putin for welcoming Armenia's desire to join the Customs Union before to start talks with his Russian counterpart today at his residence.
He also expressed confidence that Putin’s visit to the Russian military base in Gyumri " will surely have a positive impact on the combat training of the personnel and will be an important component of Armenia’s security, as provided by relevant treaties.”
Putin said it was his third visit to Gyumri. He said Russian- Armenian relations are more important than just a historic partnership.
On a visit to the military base, the Russian president said, "I would like the region's problems to be resolved by diplomacy, not weapons so that the decisions are acceptable to all parties. Regardless of what complex problems we inherited, it is necessary to solve them in the interests of ordinary people."
Speaking about Armenia's decision to join the Customs Union, the Russian president stressed that it is a joint agreement.
"We are well aware of the state of the Armenian economy. We understand that it needs an appropriate economic "safety bag." Armenia should feel its own strength and create conditions for further development and cooperation," said Putin . -0-
