Putin asks CSTO counterparts to support Armenian prime minister

The Russian peacekeeping contingent deployed in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) is the guarantor of the preservation of peace and security in the region, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said, speaking on Wednesday at a session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) via videoconference.
YEREVAN, December 2. /ARKA/. The Russian peacekeeping contingent deployed in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) is the guarantor of the preservation of peace and security in the region, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said, speaking on Wednesday at a session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) via videoconference.
“The Russian peacekeeping contingent deployed along the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor, which provides communication between Artsakh and Armenia, today is the guarantor of the preservation of peace and security in the region,” Pashinyan said. In this regard, he pointed out the exceptional role of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Throughout all the 44 days of hostilities, we were in constant contact with Vladimir Putin and discussed the necessary measures to stop the bloodshed and protect the lives of people,” Pashinyan said.
He added that today too he is working very closely with the President of Russia to solve such problems as the search for the missing, the exchange of prisoners of war and other captives and the recovery of the bodies of the killed soldiers.
Vladimir Putin in turn stressed that making a decision on Karabakh required great personal courage from Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. He believes that it is necessary to support the Armenian prime minister and his team to establish a peaceful life in the country.
Putin stressed that "indeed, Armenia, the Armenian people have gone through a very difficult period now in their history"; the leadership of Armenia and the prime minister were forced to make "very difficult decisions, but necessary for the people of Armenia."
“I must say that these decisions are, of course, painful, but, I emphasize again, they are necessary and required great personal courage from the Prime Minister. This is an obvious thing. Everyone present at today's meeting understands the degree of responsibility when making such a decision. He took that responsibility. And our task is now to support the Prime Minister and his team in order to establish a peaceful life, achieve the implementation of all decisions and help people who find themselves in a difficult life situation, "Putin said.
From September 27 to November 9, Azerbaijani armed forces, backed by Turkey and foreign mercenaries and terrorists, attacked Nagorno-Karabakh along the entire front line using rocket and artillery weapons, heavy armored vehicles, military aircraft and prohibited types of weapons such as cluster bombs and phosphorus weapons.
On November 9, the leaders of the Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities in Artsakh. According to the document, the parties stopped at where they were at that time.
