Russia interested in safe development of Armenia- Russian diplomat says
YEREVAN, May 6. /ARKA/. In a comment on anti-government demonstrations in Armenia the deputy head of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexei Zaitsev said at a press briefing on Friday that it was Armenia’s internal affair.
‘Russia is interested that the allied country develops safely and peacefully. We proceed from the fact that all internal political issues should be solved exclusively in line with law and constitution and democratic procedures," he said.
As for linking the demonstrations (whose participants demand that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan resign because of planning to cede Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan) with the Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization process, the Russian diplomat noted that in Russia's understanding, the demonstrations are not against the Armenian-Azerbaijani-Russian agreements.
"In this regard, I would like to draw attention to the fact that we are committed to actively promote the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, primarily through the implementation of all the provisions of the trilateral statements, as well as through the conclusion of a peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku," Zaytsev said.
On Friday, the opposition resumed marches in the Armenian capital trying to paralyze it by blocking avenues, streets and bridges. Police have already detained several opposition activists.-0-
