YEREVAN, February 10. /ARKA/. It is planned to introduce co-payment mechanism for healthcare services in Armenia from March 2011 for the reduction of shadow turnover in health sphere, said the Head of State Health Agency of Armenia Ara Ter-Grigoryan.
Co-payment for the rendered healthcare services is payment of difference between the defined treatment cost in the frames of state guaranteed medical aid and real price calculated by healthcare facility for the same services.
“We are well informed that people pay medical workers even in such cases when the treatment should be free-of-charge”, said Ter-Grigoryan.
One part of the amount will be directed at the increase of salaries of medical workers from current 60-80 thousand drams to 200-250 thousand drams depending on the hospital and number of patients.
The other part of money accumulated in the result of introduction of co-payment mechanism will go to quality increase of healthcare services, provision of hospitals with medicine and equipment, social and tax payments.
“Many doctors do not trust this new system and doubt in its efficiency. But in March, after the first payment of salaries by the new system they will it”, he said.
There will be differentiated approach to co-payment in the regions compared with Yerevan. It means that the cost for healthcare services will be significantly lower in the regions.
After the introduction of the new system, healthcare services for socially vulnerable people or people having disability group will be free as earlier. -0-
