YEREVAN, May 10. /ARKA/. Armenia’s government decided Thursday to extend preferential tariffs for socially vulnerable families in Armenia till March 31 of 2013, Armenia’s Energy and Natural Resources Deputy Minister Levon Shahverdyan said.

Since April 1, 2011, 49,500 socially vulnerable families that consume less than 300 cubic meters of gas per month have been benefiting from reduced tariffs which is 100 drams per one cubic meter. The fixed price is 132 drams.

“This decision was initiated by the president to ensure softer conditions for poor families. Within another year they will benefit from the tariffs of 100 drams and will not face any changes,” Armenia’s Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said on Thursday at the government session.

According to him, this decision will minimize negative impact on socially vulnerable families in Armenia.

On his side, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia Artur Grigoryan said that if earlier the reduced tariffs were supposed for the families registered in beneficiaries’ database, this time the tariffs will be available for those families that are already receiving family allowances.

“As a result, the number of families, offered benefits, will shrink a little,” the Minister said. . ($1 – 388.12 drams). -0-
