YEREVAN, May 19. /ARKA/. Armenia is in need of a law against domestic violence, said Asya Hovanyan, a lawyer.
“The existing laws don’t give room for regulating things to their full extent, and that is why a new law is necessary,” she said.
Hovanyan said that several years ago the Center for Protection of Women’s Rights NGO worked out a special draft law, which never was considered.
She said that the special law against domestic violence will specify particular punishment for offenders and will protect domestic violence victims and ensure compensation to them.
Experts say one of every three women in Armenia is a victim of domestic violence. -0----
