Armenia's birthrate down 2.2% over 8 months of 2022; death rate down 11%
YEREVAN, Oct. 5. /ARKA/. The birthrate in Armenia in January-August 2022 decreased by 2.2% compared to the same period in 2021, according to the National Statistical Committee (NSC).
It said that 22,964 babies were born during the reporting period, down from 23,478 babies born in the first eight months of 2021.
However, compared to the same time span in 2020, when 22,858 babies were born, the birthrate in the first 8 months of 2022 was up a 0.5%
Also, 292 cases of stillbirths were registered during this period, which is 9.9% less than in the same period of 2021 and 0.3% more than in the same period of 2020.
Overall, there were 18,554 deaths in January-August 2022, an 11% decrease from the same period in 2021 and a 4% decrease from the eight months of 2020.
More than half of the people (54.5% or 10,106 ) died from diseases of the circulatory system, 4.1% less than during the same period in 2021.
The second most common cause of death were neoplasms (18.6% or 3,457 people, a decrease of 3.1%). Other causes of death also include respiratory diseases (9.1% or 1,685 people, up 5.6%), digestive diseases (4.2% or 775 people, down 3.2%) and Covid-19 (3.9% or 726 people, down 70.7%). -0-
