Armenia’s Health Ministry has announced additional vaccination against poliomyelitis.
YEREVAN, May 21 /ARKA/. Armenia’s Health Ministry has announced additional vaccination against poliomyelitis. It said additional vaccinations to be conducted from May 20 to June 20 will embrace children aged 18 months to 5 years who have not received vaccination, or have had poor vaccination, as well as children who will not have the opportunity to get a 4-5 dose vaccination with a live vaccine as a result of a phased vaccination against live oral polio.
The ministry also reported that the national coverage of polio vaccination is declining; for example, in 2017 the coverage was 95%, in 2018 it fell to 93% and to 92% in the first quarter of 2019.
"The situation is the same with children aged 1 to 6 years, children aged one year. The proportion of vaccinated children in 2017 was 96%, in 2018 - 94%, and in the first quarter of 2019 – 93. 7%. The share of vaccinated children aged 6 in 2017 was 97%, in 2018 and 2019 it fell 96%," the ministry said.
It said in some communities, the percentage of vaccinated children is significantly below the national average. -0-
