Armenia’s medical facilities must reduce “shadow” and increase salaries- PM

YEREVAN, October 11. /ARKA/. Directors of Armenia’s medical facilities must significantly raise their staff’s salaries by reducing “shadow,” Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said Thursday at the meeting convened by him to discuss health issues.

“I appeal to directors of medical facilities. We expect you to show the real wages, and we will see an increase in salaries of medical workers,” he said.

Inspections in health sector revealed that by removing “shadow” it is possible to increase the salaries of medical staff.

Earlier, Health Minister Derenik Dumanyan said nearly 14,000 doctors and 18,000 nurses work in Armenia’s medical facilities: however, their average salary is AMD 60,000-80,000 and 30,000-40,000 respectively. ($1 – 406.33 drams). -0-
