YEREVAN, September 30. /ARKA/. Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan suggested Monday the country’s National Assembly considering possible amnesty in connection with the 22nd anniversary of Armenia’s independence, the presidential press service reported.
Last time the amnesty was announced in 2011 on the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence.
On September 21 Armenian citizens observed the 22nd anniversary of the independence. In 1991 the Supreme Council of Armenian republic held a referendum to quit the USSR and create an independent state. About 99% of the citizens voted for independence in the referendum. The current republic of Armenia is considered the Third Republic (the First Republic was in 1918-1920 and the Second one in1920-1991). –0--
