Armenia’s Transport Ministry hasn’t discussed hike in Yerevan’s mini buses fares

YEREVAN, October 4. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Ministry of Transport and Communication hasn’t discussed raising fares for minibuses in Yerevan, Minister Gagik Beglaryan told journalists on Thursday.

“We didn’t discuss it at Ministry of Transport and Communication. We had signals, and if we start discussing this issue, we will inform you,” Beglaryan said.

An Armenian daily ‘Haykakan Zhamanak’ (Armenian Time) said in its Wednesday’s issue that the companies operating mini buses, which are the main passenger transportation vehicles in the country, are likely to raise their fares very soon for daily commuters. Even though the Municipality said that under contracts signed with mini-bus operating companies, no hike in fares is expected any time soon, this does not mean that the contracts can not be revised and changes made to increase fares, according to the newspaper.
As of now the fare for mini buses and buses in Yerevan is 100 drams (24 cents). -0-
