YEREVAN, January 8. / ARKA /. Armenia’s unemployment rate in the third quarter of 2013 dropped by 0.6 percent from the year earlier to 15.4 %, according to the National Statistical Service. Compared to the second quarter, the unemployment rate was down by 0.8 %.
According to the official numbers, the unemployment rate in the third quarter of 2013 in urban areas was 23.1%, down from 23.9 % in the third quarter of 2012. In rural areas it rose to 4.9% from 3.9% in 2012.
Some 66,300 people were said to be looking for jobs at the end of November. Of them 57,500 were unemployed and 19,000 of them were Yerevan residents.
The number of unemployed decreased from 228,100 in the third quarter of 2012 to 215,000 in the third quarter 2013, while the number of employed people decreased from 1.194 million to 1.182 million.
The number of economically active population fell by 1.7 percent from the year before to 1,397,600 and the human resources decreased by 1.9% to 2,152,500 in late November. -0-
