YEREVAN, October 5. / ARKA /. The number of jobless people in Armenia slashed by 13 percent in early September from a year before to 63,800, according to Sona Harutyunian, head of State Employment Service agency said to a news conference today.
She said the jobless make 84.9% of the total number of people looking for work. This rate is even higher among women, who make around 72 percent of all registered jobless people, she said.
According to her, jobs have been found for 7,259 people this year. Some 4,119 of them were women, 2,191 were young people and 1,052 were over 55.
"Unfortunately, the number of employed people in the first half of 2012 slashed by 70 thousand people, which may be related to growing migration not only of the unemployed, but also of people with jobs, but low-paying, " she said.
She said another problem is lack of qualified professionals that meet the requirements of employers.
"In August there were 2,760 vacancies, of which 412 were filled within a month,” said Harutyunian.
According to her, there is a demand for workers in services, trade and laborers.
"The most difficult situation is in regions which have many vacancies but professionals, especially doctors, teachers, managers, accountants are reluctant to take them, ‘ Harutyunian said.
Harutyunian said the agency runs several programs, including government-funded designed to reduce the unemployment rate among women, young people and the disabled. -0-
