Armenian government approves plan of actions for sustainable school meals program
YEREVAN, August 22. /ARKA/. The Armenian government has approved today a strategy and a plan of actions for carrying out a Sustainable School Meals program, designed for Vayots Dzor province for 2014.
Education and science minister Armen Ashotyan said the main objective of the strategy is creation of a stable system of school meals, which will provide healthy meals for primary school pupils of secondary schools in all regions of Armenia, improve their health and overcome poverty.
He said the program will be extended to Syunik and Ararat regions in 2015 and 2016. The minister said also the program is expected to improve school attendance.
According to the program, meals will be provided to children for 168 days a year, 5 days a week. Basic per day funding for one student is 140 drams, which includes 200 ml. of milk and 60 g of cakes. The financing of the program will be secured by external donors. ($ 1 - 406.27 drams). -0-
