YEREVAN, May 27. /ARKA/. Armenia's Parliament on Wednesday has approved in the second and final reading a set of draft amendments to the law "On the targeted use of the environmental tax paid by companies."
According to the amendments, the environmental tax paid by mining companies will be given to the communities.
Under the proposed changes, part of the taxes have to be used for implementation of targeted programs of those communities, which feel the harmful effects of the mines' operation.
From now on, communities will publish their programs in advance on the website of the regional administration. A procedure has also been established for the redistribution of funds in case the harmful effects are felt by more than one community.
The Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Lilia Shushanyan noted that between the first and second readings the bill had been amended giving the power to determine the affected communities to the Ministry of the Environment. -0-
