Armenian science funding to grow by one billion drams next year

YEREVAN, September 12. / ARKA /. Science funding will increase by one billion drams next year to 11.1 billion drams, Samvel Harutyunyan, the chairman of the State Committee on Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia said today. He said that will make about 1% of budget spending.

According to Harutyunyan, the increased funding will expand opportunities for promoting science and preventing the ongoing brain drain.

He also said that the Committee used part of this year’s finding to finance 130 research programs and about 200 research trips, and organized also a number of activities within the framework of French-Armenian and Armenian-Russian cooperation.

Harutyunyan said before the end of the year the Committee intends to organize a number of academic competitions, including international ones, to encourage scientific work of graduate students and young scientists. ($1 – 411.69 drams). -0-
