The construction of Arpa-Sevan tunnel is planned to be completed in 2019, Arsen Harutyunyan, head of the State Water Committee, said Wednesday at the hearings on the 2017 government budget performance.
YEREVAN, May 30. /ARKA/. The construction of Arpa-Sevan tunnel is planned to be completed in 2019, Arsen Harutyunyan, head of the State Water Committee, said Wednesday at the hearings on the 2017 government budget performance.
“After that the volume of the water coming into Lake Sevan through the tunnel will increase by 100-150 million cubic meters to 200-250 million a year,” he said. “This year, 92 million cubic meters came to Sevan via the tunnel, and as a result, the lake’s level rose by more than seven centimeters.”
In his words, the lake’s level is 1199.7m now.
This is still lower than the previous year’s level, and this is due to this year’s dry winter.
The length of Arpa-Sevan hydro tunnel is 48.3 kilometers.
Sevan is one of the largest mountainous lakes in Europe and Asia. It sits in the middle of Armenian Highland at an altitude of 1914 meters. The lake’s water surface is 1,500 square kilometers.
Sevan is the main resource of drinking water in the region. -0---
