YEREVAN, June 6. /ARKA/. According to a  former MP from the Prosperous Armenia Party, Vartan Bostanjian,  the minimum wage  should be 80,000-100,000 drams. The Armenian government said earlier this week it  will raise the minimum wage of 32,500 drams to 45,000 drams from July 1.

"Raising the minimum wage to 45 thousand drams will have no effect amid the ongoing rise of prices of foods and other commodities. A normal wage is a wage that ensures decent living,” he said at a press conference on Thursday.

He said the prices will go up further after the anticipated rise in the tariffs of natural gas and electricity, expected in July.

Bostanjian also said the government should gradually increase all public sector wages that will in turn boost the purchasing power of the citizens. The Armenian government plans to raise public sector salaries from January 2014. ($ 1 - 414.92 drams).-0-
