Donations by ‘Save the Children’ exceed $60mln over 20 years in Armenia
YEREVAN, April 23. /ARKA/. Save the Children international organization implemented more than 900 projects in 500 communities of Armenia worth more than $60 million over the last 20 years, head of Save the Children Yerevan office Irina Saghoyan said at the celebration of the 20-year presence in the country.
The fund had more than 440,000 kids as its beneficiaries over these years.
Saghoyan also said the fund is cooperating with forty Armenian and international organizations.
‘Save the Children’ arrived when Armenia was surviving hard times with children lacking hot meals and shelter over their heads”, Soghoyan said adding they have grown from humanitarian to a development program now.
Kids are only one fourth of Armenia’s population, but they personify the future, Saghoyan said.
The ceremony was attended by Armenia’s minister of emergencies Armen Yeritsyan who said the fund was successful in meeting its goals over these 20 years.
“We have been working together for many years, and I believe we will still be doing it for long”, the minister said.
The minister offered to invite disabled children from the special school N21 to the ministry so that they can see they will have an opportunity to work there when they are grown-ups.
“I believe these problems will be solved in other ministries and agencies as well within a year or two, and kids with special needs will be able to find jobs there in future”, Yeritsyan said.
Save the Children office in Yerevan received congratulations also from the ministry of labor and social affairs, US ambassador to Armenia John Heffern, various schools and kindergartens supported by the fund, as well as from NGOs. –0--
