YEREVAN, June 4. /ARKA/. Drinking and irrigation water losses in Armenia reach 60- 75%, Volodya Narimanyan, chief of the nature protection ministry's agency for supervising administration of water resources, said Wednesday at a news conference.
«This percentage is high but not critical,» he said. «The losses are mainly due to the imperfection of the water supply system inherited from the Soviet Union and insufficient development and investment in post-Soviet period.»
Narimanyan stressed that certain measures are being taken now to lessen water losses to 30-40%.
Armenia has five water supply operators – Yerevan Jur, Armenian Water Company, Lori Water Company, Shiral Water Company and Nor Akunk. -0----
