YEREVAN, August 20. / ARKA /. Famous Armenian musician Jivan Gasparyan will perform at the legendary festival WOMAD, which for the first time will be held in Russia’s Pyatigorsk September 21 and 22, RIA Novosti reported. Jivan Gasparyan plays the duduk, a double reed woodwind Armenian instrument.
WOMAD, founded by former Genesis frontman Peter Gabriel, stands for World of Music, Art and Dance. The Russian version is subtitled "Russian Mir (Russian World) -music and crafts of Russia."
Of three stages two will be for musicians to perform, and the third will be given to musical and artistic workshops, both for adults and children.The festival will also feature the "Village of Crafts" that will display not only popular handicrafts, but also national cuisines.
The first WOMAD festival was held in 1982. They were held also in Denmark, Canada, the USA, Japan, Italy and other countries. However, the main venue of the festival is still the United Kingdom. -0-
