Food products account for  42% of consumer spending of Armenian population

YEREVAN, December 6. /ARKA/. Food products accounted for about 42% of consumer spending of Armenian population in 2016, according to the “Poverty and Social Panorama of Armenia" report, prepared by the National Statistical Service (NSS)  with the assistance of the World Bank.

According to the report, the per capita nominal consumer spending in 2016 was 43,978 drams ($91) a month, which was by 2.6% more than in the previous year.

The report says that a person spent 18,520 drams ($38.9) a month on buying food. The figure made  about 42.1% of all consumer spending, including meals outside the house.

The per capita cost of services amounted to 34.4% of all consumer spending a month or 15,131 drams. The bulk of services were  utility payments- 6,148 drams, 2,038 drams - healthcare payments and 2,438 drams were communications payments. Nonfood expenses per person amounted to 8,732 drams a month.

The data of the National Statistical Service says that Armenians spent more on buying cigarettes in 2016  (1,351 drams) than on buying alcoholic beverages (244 drams). The minimum wage in Armenia, according to the latest official statistics, is 55,000 drams. ($ 1 - 484.66 drams). -0-
