Former director of Armenian Matenadaran dies

A prominent Armenian researcher of manuscripts, Sen Arevshatyan, died today, the Matenadaran Museum of Ancient Manuscripts said. Arevshatyan was head of Matenadaran for 25 years before resigning.

YEREVAN, July 25. / ARKA /. A prominent Armenian researcher of manuscripts, Sen Arevshatyan, died today, the Matenadaran Museum of Ancient Manuscripts said. Arevshatyan was head of Matenadaran for 25 years before resigning.

Sen Arevshatyan was born in 1928 in Yerevan. In 1951 he graduated from Yerevan State University. In 1972 he earned the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. In 1996 he was awarded the degree of academician. 

Arevshatyan was a member of the Paris-based Ararat Academy, and a member of the Russian Academy of Arts and Sciences. 

He made a great contribution to Armenian studies specializing in ancient and medieval philosophy. 

During his tenure as head of Matenadaran it was replenished by 1,500 ancient manuscripts. -0 -
