YEREVAN, March 22. /ARKA/. The Armenian government decided today to transfer 205 million drams to ArmRosGazprom (ARG), the Russian-dominated Armenia's national gas distribution company, to pay part of natural gas bills of socially vulnerable families for the fourth quarter of 2011.
Under an agreement with the ARG, from April 1, 2011 some 49,500 low-income families have been receiving special coupons entitling them to pay 100 drams per cubic meter of gas given that a family uses less than 300 cubic meters of gas a month. Other families pay 132 drams. The discount will be in force until 2012 April 1.
The measure was proposed by president Serzh Sargsyan and approved by ARG management. Sargsyan promised such a discount following his February 25, 2011 meeting in Saint Petersburg with Russia’s president Dmitry Medvedev.
Armenian prime minister Tigran Sargsyan stressed today the importance of the discount. The discount will cost the government about 600 million drams. ($1 - 388.12 drams). -0-
