Importers of electric vehicles to be exempted from taxes and customs duties – Armenian premier

YEREVAN, October 12. /ARKA/. Karen Karapetyan, Armenian prime minister, tasked today appropriate officials to work out schemes for exempting importers of electric vehicles from paying taxes and customs duties.

“Taking into account their environmental compatibility and in order to spur import, we should consider and work out proposals to exempt import and operation of electric vehicles from customs duties and taxes, particularly property tax,” he said.

The prime minister gave one month to concerned organizations for submitting proposals to the government.

Light cars were exempted from entry duties in the Eurasian Economic Union’s territory yet before August 31, 2017.

As a result, customs duty for light electric vehicles fell from 17% to zero, and for electric trucks with up-to-five-ton capacity from 15% top 5%.

The Eurasian Economic Commission says the Eurasian Economic Union’s electric vehicles market is still extremely sensitive to prices. --0----
