YEREVAN, January 21. /ARKA/. Liberalization of Armenia’s air transportation market will drive air fares down, Artem Movsisyan, head of the General Department of the Civil Aviation of Armenia, told journalists on Tuesday.
“We embarked on liberalization of the market just now, and everything will depend on the number of air companies operating at the local market and routes,” he said.
Movsisyan said that flights to some popular destination, particularly Moscow and Dubai, have already become more frequent and tickets for these flights have become cheaper.
He refrained from pointing particular prices or comparing them with previous prices, but said that the final results will be seen no earlier than in the middle of this year.
Acting on a recommendation by McKinsey & Company and the National Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia the Armenian government liberalized the domestic civil aviation sector in late October last year saying that all local and foreign airlines meeting safety standards will be allowed to fly to and from Armenia without special authorizations or other restrictions. -0----
